The new Minister of Health of the Seychelles, Dr. Marvin Fanny, met with FDM instructor Thorsten Fischer at the Ministry of Health in Victoria, Mahé, on Tuesday, January 27th, to discuss the use of the Fascial Distortion Model (FDM) in physical therapy on the Seychelles.

Recently published statistics in the Seychelles National Bureau of Statistics’ (NBS) thematic report on functional limitations revealed that 61% of people with limitations in the Seychelles experience difficulties walking and climbing stairs. Only then, at 31%, do people with limitations in self-care become more prevalent. This is a clear signal for the government, which took office in November 2025, to expand physical therapy services on the Seychelles. The Fascial Distortion Model (FDM) offers a simple and, above all, quick way to demonstrate success in this and many other areas, bringing about tangible and visible change for the population.

Dr. Fanny, a pediatric surgeon trained and practicing abroad, who still works as a physician in his field in emergencies on the Seychelles, also sees the opportunity that FDM offers for the Seychelles. It was agreed to discuss the next steps this year. This meeting was only made possible by the successful FDM treatments carried out in Germany. Thanks to the visible and tangible successes, and through the mediation of Alvis Waye-Hive and Birgitt Lübkemann, FDM was first recognized in the Seychelles and will now hopefully spread further in line with the goals of the EFDMA. After long and fruitful discussions in a wonderful setting (see photo) in the water, the idea was born to make FDM usable at the state level.
